One meal that sticks out in my mind is breakfast I had a couple of years ago with one of my good fiends. It was at a great place to get omelets in Bar Harbor called CafĂ© This Way. It’s a fairly small place that has two garage doors that really open the place up, plus it has books and art everywhere. So it started with good food and company in a cool location, then afterwards we went to the Alternative to get more coffee. Next we checked out an art exhibition in the Village Green because my friend dabbles in art herself. On top of it all it was a cool rainy fall day. The meal was memorable for the whole day that followed and the fact that it wasn’t planned helped make it better.
Personally I’m hoping to have some fun, learn some new things particularly about the industry, and see some cool stuff. It seems like the typical day is going to be pretty busy between class, ship work, and cooking duty. The only potential concern I have right now is that they’re expecting the winds to be really calm, 5-10kts., on Monday and Tuesday.
One meal that realy sticks out in my head is one that i had on a boy schout trip, it is deer stew with maple dumplings for dessert. It was just what we needed to cheer us up on a cold rainy day, and that is what made it a good meal. Not only did it warm us up, but the maple dumplings put a smile on everyons face. And that is one of the most importnat things, to keep warm on a cold day and filling up your stomach with a delicious dessert. And this is what i tried to incorperate in our meals on this sailing trip, so for a dessert we are going to make maple dumplings.
My expectations fro the trip are that I will have a fun time while learning more about nautical navigation. Every day seems to have a little class time for each group to learn a little, along with time at the helm and free time to eighter rest or write in our journals. I dont have any concerns about the trip cause eigther way i think that i'm going to have a good time.
There is not a certain meal that sticks out in my mind. But some of my favorite’s meals are on small O.E. trips. Because it is so laid back no running around trying to cook for 50 or more people every one helps cook and cleans. Thin we sit around talking having a good time.
I hope to learn some new stuff and may be make it to Bar Harbor. I think it going flow smooth. I hope I don’t get sea sick!!!
One of the excellent experiences I have had with meals is when my father used to take us all camping. We would go out to one of those big lot campgrounds and he would cook up a storm. The meal that used to be my favorite would be his salmon that he would marinade it with a sesame ginger and would serve it with mashed potatoes and some green vegetable. I would always ask my father to make this meal whenever we went camping because I loved it so much. What made the meal so exceptional was probably the whole ambiance of the camp ground. The wooden pick-nick table, small fire, and just this big slab of salmon on your plate that could be one of the best things you would smell for the rest of the night because of how good it was. I can bring some of these experiences that I have had to the sailing expedition by making my meal exceptional, and more or less, satisfying. Because you can’t have a quality dining experience with quality.
Some of the expectations that I have for this trip is that we are going out on the coast, and we have to be ready for any types of weather. One of my expectations is that we are going to have a hard enough time with the schedule that is already laid out for us and trying to stay on the schedule. I think the typical day on board will just be us working..all the time. Always not doing something at the least. The one thing I am looking forward to of course is my meal that I have planned for dinner, and I can’t wait to share that experience with everyone.
One meal i would describe as an excellent experience would be dumpling soup with my grandfather. What made this meal special is the fact that i only had this with my grandfather and nobody could cook this dish like him. and it was always a very comfortable enviorment. i can incorporate these aspects into my presentation by making sure the food is good and making a comfortable enviorment. I expect to have a good time and a unique experience. I think a normal day will be navigation and rigging sails for the most part. i an dreading the tests but looking forward to the sailing.
