Blog Discussion for Week 1

This week, you've had a short introduction to this course through photographs and discussion in class. You've also received a number of assignments including your emergency kit, current events, and blog assignments.

For this first blog entry, I would like you to think about and answer the following:

1. What do you think this program is really all about?
2. What specifically do you hope to learn from being in this program?

Your response should be no less than one paragraph for each question (one paragraph is 4-5 sentences of logical and connected writing). Remember to compose your answers in a word processor and use spell and grammar check before copying and pasting into the blog comment box. Your response should be posted before class on Friday, September 7.

I think the program is designed to teach the students the necessary skills to enter the outdoor tourism industry in a wide variety of fields. The emphasis is definitely on Maine activities, but most of the skills will surely be transferable to other areas of the country if not world. In particular I think that the Terrestrial and Aquatic Adventure classes are for bringing together what was or is being learned in the other classes to create a comprehensive knowledge base.
While I greatly enjoy hiking and camping, my main focus is going to be on the saltwater activities. I’ve already been coastal kayaking by myself for six years now, and could definitely see me going in that direction. I also am most interested in exploring sailing. I’ve always had a love of the ocean and don’t ever want to be to far from it. Still I’m going to try to learn as much as I can about everything while I’m here.

i think that the program is about learing to become a guide or tourism director. The program will teach the skills nessasary to act and guide responsibly in the backwood and wile guideing.
i think terresterial and aqudic adventures is about learning how to manage risk and to learn how to be safe is the woods. it also brings the class togeather.
I hope to become a registered maine guide after graduating from this program. i am very interested in the whitewater rafting industry. allthough kayaking has caught my attention resently. if i could somehow learn something to get me into a skiing feild that would be awsome. yet that is not my main goal.

To me this course is about being prepared, prepared for everything that might happen while we are out trekking in the woods and for everything that might be thrown at us. From what we have already got as assignments, it looks as though that we have already prepared for some emergencies for we are already making emergency kits. Also, we are going learning about outside sources for doing this current events project. All in all, I think we are getting prepared for what we are going to need to know when some of us go for our Maine Guides License. I am hoping to take everything I can from this program and use the knowledge in the future to help me accomplish my Maine Guides License.

to me the adventure rec. program, is a way of teaching students the neccisary skills they need, to go out in nature and have a fun time while remaining in a safe environment. The program also helps teach the leadership skiils needed to lead a group of people on a trip. along with the orgazational skills to plan this trip.
The reason i decided to attend WCCC was because i heard of the Adv. Rec. and Tourism course. I hope to come out of the program with the nessecery skills to become a guide, i really enjoy biking and hope to find a carreer along those lines. If i can't than i would probably choose a feild that involves lots of hiking.

To me this course is designed to help prepare you for any outdoor career you may want to pursue believe this course not only gives you the hard skills you need in the outdoor field but also the soft skills needed for working with groups. I think this course also gives you a better understanding about how the outdoor industry works.
I hope to better my leadership skill by taking this course. I also would like to develop some new hard skills by taking the adventure rec course. Ultimatly upon completion of the program I would like to have an idea of what career I would like to peruse and all of the skills needed for it.
